That first cup of tea- it always tastes the same

ek cup chai

New apartment, new city, new country, new office- name it. Whatever new environment it is that you are settling yourself into,  that first cup of tea you make is always going to taste the same. The disposable paper cup. The overheated water. The fragile tea bag. The milk that’s too thin. The sugar that’s not sweet enough.

The entire process of perfecting your tea is so symbolic to how you adjust to your new environment. As I sit on my window sill, gazing out the window, I wonder how much longer it’ll take before this tea translates into that comforting beverage that is meant to soothe the angst of my daily life.
