I am not going to plague this post with the tri-color Indian flag, a black-and-white portrait of Gandhi or with Bollywood Celebrities to remind anybody about India’s strengths. As an Indian Muslim, I myself experienced immense anti-Muslim tensions-I have my share of complaints against India. But that’s not the point.
Somewhere along the timeline of this world, humans decided that the West is superior to the East and from that point onward to this day, we have upon our heads a lid of steel that prevents us from rising even after we’ve risen. I feel that even after an incredible victory and celebration of freedom, India suffers an inferiority complex. It is only after conquering this inferiority complex that this nation will propel towards it’s unstoppable growth.
Even then, to me, India offers a strange spontaneous feeling of oneness with everyone. Everything surrounds you and it is this irreversible freedom that presents itself as the gift of India to every living being in this world. A land where you can’t avoid knowing God before you get to know the world. A land where you respect sentiments but don’t necessarily suffer from superstitions. I stand before you, with my heart full to the brim, of joy to celebrate this identity. Happy Independence Day India. You are a beautiful Gift to this World
