I want to introduce my readers to one of my favorite chefs/personalities: Laura Calder. A charming chef. Apparently, in France, ingredients are purchased on a day-to-day basis and it encourages cooks to spontaneously think of recipes while shopping in the market.
Other than that, if you found yourself stumbling in the supermarket, flipping over the raging prices of fruit, then wake up and look around. There might be tons and tons of fruits, that you simply haven’t tried yet. Why do we stick with apples, bananas, grapes and oranges? Can we try something new? Sure we can. The Greater Toronto Area certainly is trying to adopt this mentality. Their attention has gone towards a fruit called the Paw Paw. I am certainly keeping my eyes out for these!
Its interesting how there are tropical fruits found in Canada that are not all that ‘exotic’ when they were in India or Mexico. All of a sudden, those local flavors become ‘gourmet’ food in North America. Whether it is Mango, Sapodilla or Custard Apples, its all delicious! Yumm. And I only recently discovered Lychee. Oh God. Its addictive. Knock on your taste buds, see what you discover.
