Take a close look at this cat.
He is Oscar. Oscar resides in the dementia unit of the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, located in Providence, Rhode Island. When a patient’s death is near, Oscar will crawl into bed with them. In other words, Oscar knows when someone is dying! He has maintained close vigil over the deaths of more than 25 patients. Can’t be just coincidence.
Now keep in mind that this is a dementia unit, so rarely will a patient have any consciousness of what is going around them and having a cat crawling into their bed in their last hour is actually quite comforting to most patients. Also, most of these patients have outlived their loved ones, so its nice to have some company. Its amusing. Isn’t?
Animal stories are always amusing. Like their ability to foresee natural disasters: they flee before it even hits us.
