Picture a candle
“What direction is the flame blowing in”?
This question really has no answer, because there is a candle but no flame.
The Buddha, upon attaining enlightenment, was obviously unable to put his experience into words. Asking what his experience was like, was very much like asking what direction the flame is blowing in. The question seems perfectly logical, but only you know that the candle had no flame. All others think there is a flame and that they are merely asking for the direction of the flame. In reality, there is no answer. I think we all feel this way about certain experiences and sometimes it becomes impossible to summon the experience in words. In other words: don’t even bother trying to explain that experience.
